英语单词advocate，它的意思是支持、倡导者，也就是表达自己坚定信念，并为之奋斗的人。除此之外，该词还可以指法律顾问、律师或先驱。advocate在英语中可以作名词和动词使用，其实它的动词形态更为常用。
作为名词时，advocate通常表示的是一个活跃的支持者、主张者或者说倡导者，比如：He was a strong advocate of equal rights for everyone。他是等权利的坚定支持者。
