ebb是一个动词，指“消退，减弱”的意思，例如：
The tide is ebbing. 潮水正在消退。
Our hopes ebbed away. 我们的希望消失了。
ebb有时也可以形容一种逐渐减少的状况，比如：
His energy is ebbing. 他的精力正在减弱。
ebb 后面常跟away，因为ebb就是说往外消失的意思，后面加away表示“消失”的意思。
更进一步，ebb也可以用于比喻方面：
Her enthusiasm for the project is ebbing away. 她对这个项目的热情正在减弱。
