germ用作名词时有两个意思：
一种是微生物，指细菌、真菌、病毒、有机化合物等能够造成传染病的微小生物，一般指细菌或致病微生物。如：
He said that the germ theory of disease was only accepted gradually by physicians. 他说疾病的微生物理论是医生逐渐接受的。
另一种用法指有潜力发展某种事物的萌芽或种子，尤指抽象状态。如：
The germ of the idea was there before it was developed into a fully-fledged business plan. 这项想法的种子在完善为完整的商业计划之前就已存在了。
