Hence（连词）是拉丁语“以此类推”的意思。Hence在英语句子中用来引出结论或解释，表示一种因果关系。
一、用法
Hence可以用作连词，连接两个句子；也可以用作副词，放在句子末尾。
1. 作连词时，Hence前后两句都是完整句，含义为“因此，结果……”：
He failed to pass the exam, hence he was not allowed to attend the graduation ceremony.（他考试没通过，因此不能参加毕业典礼）
2. 作副词时，Hence放在句末，一般与它放在一起的是一种原因或得出的结论：
She was born in China, hence she speaks Chinese.（她出生在中国，因此她会说中文）
二、与“therefore”比较
Hence和Therefore也都是表示因果关系的连词，可以互换使用，但还有一些区别：
1. Hence更多用于正式场合；而Therefore更常用于非正式场合；
2. Hence后面的句子通常表示一种结论；而Therefore后面的句子通常是一种建议，表示一种动作；
3. Hence表示时间上的后果；而Therefore表示了解原因后的行动。
例如：
He failed to pass the exam, hence he was not allowed to attend the graduation ceremony.（他考试没通过，因此不能参加毕业典礼）
He failed to pass the exam, therefore he should study harder.（他考试没通过，所以他应该更加努力学习）
