Married is an adjective used to describe a state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relation recognized by law. It is also used to describe the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a similar legal relation.
Married can be used as a verb meaning to join in wedlock or to solemnize the marriage of two people. It can also be used to mean to assume the marital relation with, or to take as a spouse.
