Testimony是指“证词，证言”、“证据”的意思。它的用法主要体现在三个方面：
一是在审讯中，指被告人或证人所作出的宣誓而作证的话。如：The witness gave his testimony to the court.（当庭证人作出了他的证词）
二是通常引用的有关宗教的证词，指某人对某种信念、信仰、宗教原理发表的感言，可以包括宗教里关于个人经历的叙述，也可以包括学者对某种意义或教义的解释。如：I have heard testimonies from him of the power of prayer.（我听到他关于祈祷的力量的证言）
三是指因某事而产生的实际的证据，也就是被证明的事实。如：The official received a written testimony from his former colleague.（官员收到了前同事的书面证据）
