“Temporary”是一个常见的英语单词，它可以作形容词、副词或名词。其义项主要有两个，一是“暂时的，临时的”，另一是“非永久的”。
形容词temporary常用来修饰名词，表示“暂时的，临时的”。如：He was given a temporary job.（他被聘请做了一项临时工作）；The child was provided with temporary housing.（孩子被提供了临时住所）；We set up a temporary clinic.（我们建立了一个临时诊所）；She got a temporary visa.（她获得了一次性签证）。
